Excursion In Almora

Almora is famous for its cultural heritage, handicrafts, cuisine and wildlife. The headquarters is at Almora. Almora is a hill district in the central Kumaon region of Uttaranchal. It is a beautiful scenic place situated at an altitude of 5900 ft.

There is a cave where Swami Vivekanand meditated and was enlightened. Almora was captured by British from Gorkhas, who have left their mark on this town.

Nanda Devi festival is celebrated here, during which devotees from all over India visit this place.

It is situated at the bank of Ram Ganga River near Masi Bazaar. You can see thousands of people from different parts of Uttranchal visiting and worshiping in this temple through out the year.

This place is approximately 2 kms away from Almora. People visit this place to witness the sunset and the sunrise seen through the Himalayan peaks. When you visit this place dont forget to visit Vivekananda Library and Vivekananda Memorial. Vivekananda Library is close by and has many books on literature. Vivekananda Memorial is also near by and is famous because Swami Vivekananda had stopped for a while on his journey to the Himalayas. Circuit house is nearby and you can spend some time of yours there too.

It is famous for its fruits and government apple gardens. That is why it is popularly known as Orchard Country. From here Himalayas are easily visible. When you visit this place you can also visit Bhalu Dam which is near Chaubatia. That place is well known for an artificial lake and picnic spot.

Chaukhutia is 54 kms from Ranikhet and is on the Ranikhet-Badrinath highway. It is situated in the bank of Ram Ganga River. Chaukhutia's is famous for its historical past and religious significance. Kali temple, Vaishno Devi's temple, ancient fort and ruins of Katyuri dynasty are the places to visit and explore. This place is also famous for fishing centre.
The name Chaukhutia has derived from a Kumaoni word "Chakuta" which means four feet. In Chaukhutia's context four feet means four ways. From here the entire region is easily accessible.
