Champawat District is part of the eastern Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand. It is bounded on the north by Pithoragarh District, on the east by Nepal, on the south by Udham Singh Nagar District, on the west by Nainital District, and on the northwest by Almora District. The town of Champawat is the administrative headquarters.

Abbot Mount

Abbot Mount

Abbot Mount is situated 8 kms. away from Lohaghat is approximately at a height of 2001 mtrs. A true peaceful and less exploited destination, Abbot is a right place to visit for excursion and trekking. On the hill top of Abbot two places which are of utmost attraction is the picturesque and beautiful church set and an old cricket pitch.

Nearest railway station is Kathgodam which is 163 Kms from here. The nearest airport is at Pantnagar. If you are coming by road from Delhi, you can take NH 24 to Rampur via Moradabad and then NH 87 to Rudrapur via Bilaspur. From Rudrapur, NH 125 leads to Marorakhan via Champawat and Lohaghat from where a state highway will lead to Abbott Mount.



Baleshwar Temple

Baleshwar Temple is believed to be built by the Chand rulers between 10 - 12 century A.D. It is located in the center of Champawat city. Baleshwar temple is dedicated to lord Shiva is known for its magnificent stone carvings and its protected monuments. There are evidences of temples dedicated to Baleshwar, Ratneshwar and Champawati Durga being built by the early kings of the Chand dynasty.



Banasur Ka Kila

Banasur Ka Kila

Banasur Ka Kila is a fort which was built during the medieval times is said to be associated with legendary Vanasur, who was assassinated here. The Lohawati river originates nearby.



Ek Hathiya Ka Naula

Ek Hathiya Ka Naula is located at a distance of 5 kms. from Champawat. Famous for its unique architecture Ek Hathiya Ka Naula is believed to have been built overnight by an armed artisan.



Lohaghat

Lohaghat situated at 1645 mtrs. above the sea level is located within Champawat District of Uttarakhand on the banks of the River Lohawati. Blessed with natural beauty Lohaghat is a hillstation attracting tourist from round the world, round the year. Being one of the most scenic places in Uttarakhand Lohaghat has also the historical and mythological significance.

Nearest rail head is Tanakpur which is 89 kms. from here. Nearest Airport is at Pantnagar, 120 kms. away.



Meetha Reetha Saheb

Meetha Reetha Saheb

Meetha Reetha Saheb is 72 kms from Champawat is a important Sikh pilgrim centre . It is said that Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikhs came here and had spiritual discussions with Gorakhpanthi Jogis. The Gurudwara here stands at the confluence of Lodhiya and Ratiya rivers, near village Deyuri. There are trees of Reetha (Sapindus emarginatus) in the Gurudwara premises, which according to legends have become sweet due to the miraculous touch of the Guru. Adjoining the gurudwara is the temple of Dhernath. A fair is held here on 'Baisakh Poornima'.

Nagnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It’s a beautiful temple with exquisite Kumaon architecture. Today stands only the remains of temple which is believed to be destroyed by the Rohillas and Gorkhas in the 18th Century after they invaded this town.



Pancheshwar

Pancheshwar

Pancheshwar, 40 kms away is located at the confluence of river Kali and Saryu on the Nepal border. Pancheshwar is famous for the Shiva temple of Pancheshwar, where Jaat of Chaumu is worshipped as protector of animals. Large number of devotees visit the shrine during the fair and take a dip at the holy confluence. The region affords excellent views of the Himalayan grandeur and has fine trails and treks for adventure seekers.



Shyamatal

Shyamatal

Shyamatal is a beautful lake at a distance of 65 kms from Champawat. It is spread over an area of 1.5 sq. kms. Close by is the famous ashram of Vivekanand. The Jhula fair held here is also very popular among the locals.



Tanakpur

Tanakpur

Tanakpur is situated at an elevation of 837ft above sea level. Its a little town which lies on the riverside of Sharda River. It is just 3 Km away from the Indo-Nepal border due to which it can be taken as an emerging business town of Kumaon region. It is also well connected with major transportation facilities. Purnagiri Temple near Tanakpur is the center of attraction for all the tourist.
