Haridwar also known as 'Gateway to Gods' is known as Mayapuri, Kapila, Gangadwar as well. The followers of Lord Shiva(Har) and followers of Lord Vishnu(Hari) pronounce this place Haridwar.It is also a point of entry to Dev Bhoomi and Char Dham Viz. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Haridwar is also one of the four places; where Kumbh Mela occurs after rotation of every twelve Years and Ardh Kumbh after every six years. Important towns in the district are BHEL, Ranipur, Dhandera, Jhabrera, Laksar, Landaura, Manglaur, Mohanpur Mohammadpur, and Roorkee.

Chamba is situated 81 kms from Haridwar at an altitude of 1,676 mts above sea level. Chamba is one of the best excursion as the place offers panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan range and the sacred view of the Bhagirathi River. Chamba as the place provides peace and tranquillity. The place is quite and serene with pine and Deodar trees everywhere.

The Chilla Wildlife Sanctury which expands over an area of 240 sq km is the wildlife as well as vegetation region which is open to visitors. This sanctuary lies on the eastern bank of River Ganges which adds more charm to it. Visitors undertaking a safari into the jungles of Chilla Sanctuary, not only watch a variety of animal species at close quarters but also gets a chance to admire the scenic views of the Ganges and the northern Himalayas.

Dehradun city is the capital of Uttarakhand and the headquarters of Dehradun district. Dehradun is surrounded by the Himalayas in the north, the Shivalk Hills to the south, the Yamuna to the west and the Ganga to the east.

Dehradun has lots of tourist places like Lacchiwala, Rober's cave, Sahastradhara, Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Buddha Temple, Shiv Mandir (Rajpur Road), MDDA Amusement Park, Deer Park, FRI etc. Dehradun is also the gateway to the famous hill station of Mussoorie and the pilgrimage spots of Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Devprayag

Devprayag

Devprayag is the sacred confluence of the two holy rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda making its water holier with the formation of Ganga River. Located at an elevation of 472 mts above sea level at the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River it is just 99kms ahead of Haridwar on NH58 connecting with Badrinath Dham.

Devprayag is also one of the five confluences of Alaknanda River and the origin of Ganga River (Panch Prayag). It is also the seat of the priests of the Badrinath temple.



Mussoorie

Mussoorie is situated 85 kms from Haridwar and is set at an elevation of 2005 mts above sea level. Mussoorie is also called as Queens of Hills. Kempty Falls, the Mall Road, Bhatta falls, Gunhill and Lal Tibba are some of the popular places nearby Mussoorie. This place is situated amidst green hills and is rich in varied flora and fauna.



Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Neelkanth Mahadev temple is situated on the summit of the mountain across the sacred Ganga River and is 38 kms away from Haridwar. According to mythology this is the place where Lord Shiva drank the venom produced during Sagar Manthan; which turned his throat blue and was thus the place was named as Neelkanth (one of the name of Lord Shiva). Thousands of devotees visit Neelkanth Mahadev every month throughout the year.



New Tehri

New Tehri

New Tehri is situated 98 kms from Haridwar and was made during the construction of the Tehri Dam. It is the only planned town of Uttarakhand state. Every month thousands of tourists visit Tehri to see the stagnant water of the massive Tehri Dam. New Tehri is very well connected with motorable roads. There are also many good hotels in New Tehri.



Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park is 4.7 kms from Birla Ghat and was established in 1983. Rajaji National Park is situated along the hills and foothills of Shiwalik ranges in the Himalayan foothills and represent the Shiwalik eco-system. The national park’s name has been dedicated to C. Rajagopalachari, fondly known as Raja Ji.

Combining three sanctuaries, namely Chilla, Motichur and Rajaji - Rajaji National Park is spread over the Pauri Garwal, Dehradun and Saharanpur districts of Uttarakhand. The picturesque beauty and rich biodiversity of the park serve as its major attractions for both nature lovers as well as wildlife enthusiasts.



Rishikesh

Rishikesh is situated 76 kms from New Tehri at an elevation of 372 mts above the sea level. Rishikeshs under the shivalik range of the Himalayas. Rishikesh is an ideal spot for white water rafting and camping on the river beach and, It is also the home of numerous temples and one of the busiest places of Uttarakhand where lakhs of tourists visit every month throughout the year.

Sapt Rishi Ashram is located approximately 5 km from Har-ki-pauri, along the Haridwar-Rishikesh road. According to Hindu Mythology, Sapt Rishi Ashram is regarded as the place where the seven great sages, or Sapt-Rishis, Kashyap, Vashisht, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadwaja and Gautam meditated.
