The district of Tehri Garhwal is one of the largest districts in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. New Tehri is situated 110 Kms from Dehradun and 300 Kms from New Delhi. New Tehri itself is a modern town now spread over an altitude from 1,550 mts to 1,950 mts above sea level. Tourists come to New Tehri to see the Tehri Dam which is one of the World’s largest hydroelectric projects harnessing waters of two important rivers of the Himalayas namely Bhagirathi and Bhilangana. Lake which has now come up provides a hundred opportunities to the adventure lovers and employment to local people. Government is planning to have all sorts of water sports like Scuba Diving, Angling, Canocing, Rowing, Boating, Water scooter, speed Boating, Rafting, Kayaking, House Boat, Cruise boating at Tehri Lake.

Chandrabadni Temple

Chandrabadni Temple

Chandrabadni Temple is situated 9 Kms from Tehri and 117 Kms from Narendra Nagar at an elevation of 2277 mts above the sea level. Chandrabadni Temple is devoted to Goddess Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology the torso of Goddess Sati accidentally fell here and her weapons got scattered all around the place. Even today these weapons (huge number of iron trishuls/tridents) and some old statues can be seen lying around the temple. The temple is one of the Siddhpeeth's holding great religious importance amongst Hindus.



Chamba

Chamba

Chamba is situated 60 Kms from Mussoorie at an elevation of 1676 mts above the sea level. It is located at a junction of roads connecting Mussoorie and Rishikesh with the Tehri Dam reservoir and New Tehri. Chamba is one of the brightest spots of Tehri Garhwal offering one of the most spectacular views of snow capped Himalayas and the enchanting Bhagirathi valley. There are pleasant forests of pine and Deodar trees, with some good views. This place is fairly quiet and picturesque, hence an excellent place to relax and wash off the city blues.

One can reach Chamba in about 7-8 Hrs from Delhi via Hardwar, Rishikesh and Narendranagar (290 km).

Dehradun city is the capital of Uttarakhand and the headquarters of Dehradun district. Dehradun is surrounded by the Himalayas in the north, the Shivalk Hills to the south, the Yamuna to the west and the Ganga to the east.

Dehradun has lots of tourist places like Lacchiwala, Rober's cave, Sahastradhara, Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Buddha Temple, Shiv Mandir (Rajpur Road), MDDA Amusement Park, Deer Park, FRI etc. Dehradun is also the gateway to the famous hill station of Mussoorie and the pilgrimage spots of Haridwar and Rishikesh.



Devprayag

Devprayag is a small town situated 81 Kms from New tehri at an elevation of 472 mts above the sea level. The term Devprayag stands for 'Holy Confluence' in the Sanskrit language. This is the confluence of two holy rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. From where the point of these two rivers ends, Holly Ganges emerges from. Devprayag is one of the five confluences (Panch Prayag) of Alaknanda River and the origin of Ganga River. Religiously, the site is very sacred and of immense significance among the Hindu followers. Devprayag is also hugely blessed with natural beauty. Tourist, saints, pundits and munies visit the temple throughout the year from across the country.



Dhanaulti

Dhanaulti is situated 44 kms from Tehri Garhwal at an elevation of 2286 mts above the sea level. Dhanaulti, situated on the Mussoorie-Chamba route is covered with thick alpine forests of deodar, rhododendron (burans) and oak which offers an atmosphere of perfect peace and tranquility. You will witness relaxed outdoors, cool caressing breeze, warm and hospitable inhabitants, lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountains ideal for a relaxed holiday. Due to scenic beauteousness Dhanaulti is now emerging as a travel destination.



Kanatal

Kanatal is situated 27 Kms from New Tehri at an elevation of 2590 mts above the sea level. Kanatal is situated 78 kms from Dehradun, 38 kms from Mussoorie and 12 kms from Chamba. It is on the Chamba-Mussoorie highway and is conveniently connected by road to Delhi and major cities. Kanatal is nearly 300 kms from Delhi.

Kanatal is an emerging popular tourist destination with picturesque lake with pristine water. Pople also visit Surkunda Devi temple which is dedicated to Sati Ji. According to legend Lord Shiva (Shankar Ji) brought her dead body on his trishul from Haridwar. This temple is 8 kms on the road to Mussoorie to Kaddukhal. One has to trek 2 kms on foot to the little temple. You can also opt for Ponies which are easily available.



Kaudiyala

Kaudiyala is situated 37 kms from Rishikesh on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway at an altitude of 389 mts above the sea level. Kaudiyala is ideal for white water rafting due to mighty water of Holy Ganga. Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) conducts river rafting courses at Kaudiyala. They provide rafts, river side camping items and trained guides who make the sport a pleasure. There is ample opportunity to view wildlife in its natural habitat. All this is done under supervision where safety precautions are stressed on.

Kempty Fall is 15 km from Mussoorie on the Yamunotri road having at an elevation of 1215 mts above the sea level. It has the distinction of being the biggest and prettiest water fall located in a beautiful valley and is surrounded by high mountains. Khatling Glacier is at an elevation of max. 4600 mts above the sea level. Khatling is one of the few massive glaciers situated in the Tehri Garhwal. The trek to Khatling Glacier is moderate commencing from Ghuttu situated 62 kms from Tehri. One can reach Kedarnath via Gangi, Khatling Glacier, Shastra Tal, Masar Tal and Vasuki Tal. The trek becomes strenuous if you proceed ahead to Kedarnath from Khatling Glacier. Trek to Khatling glacier is an unforgettable experience as while trekking you will encounter mesmerising and mystical vistas of nature's beauteousness and the enchanting Himalayan peaks.

Narendra Nagar is situated on the main Rishikesh-Gangotri-Yamunotri route Narendra Nagar offers a fine view of the Ganga and the beautiful Doon Valley. The present town of Narendra Nagar came into existence in 1919, when Maharaja Narendra Shah of Tehri Garhwal moved his capital from Tehri to a more picturesque locale. Here, the palace of the Tehri King (Raja), is situated amidst the forest. On a clear day one can get aerial view of Rishikesh, Haridwar and Ganga flowing from mountains to Plains of Haridwar.

New Tehri is situated 98 kms from Haridwar at an elevation of 1750 mts above the sea level. New Tehri was made during the construction of the Tehri Dam. It is the only planned town of Uttarakhand state. Every month thousands of tourists visit Tehri to see the stagnant water of the massive Tehri Dam. New Tehri is very well connected with motorable roads. There are also many good hotels in New Tehri.

Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi is situated 78 Kms from Tehri at an elevation of 1352 mts above the sea level. Uttarkashi means Kashi of the north is situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi. Similar to Varanasi, town of Uttarkashi is situated on the Ganges, lies next to a hill named Varun Parvat, on confluence of two rivers Varuna and Asi, has a ghat called Manikarnika Ghat and has a temple dedicated to Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) in the center of the town. Uttarkashi is home to a number of ashrams and temples and also to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
