Augustmuni is situated on the banks of Mandakini River in Rudraprayag at an elevation of 1000 mts above the sea level. Augustmuni is known as the place where Rishi Agastya meditated for several years. There is Agasteshwar Mahadev Temple which is dedicated to the Rishi is also known for its architecture. Tourists visiting Augustmuni temple can see the carvings of Gods and Goddesses on the stones. Baijnath, which is 26k kms away is a historical and pilgrim site on Gwaldam motor road is set on the banks of river Gomti in Katyuri valley. It was once the capital of Katyuri dynasty and the ancient temples here stand in testimony of the erstwhile era. The ancient Shiva temple here is famous for the magnificent idol of Goddess Parvati.
