Tell us about yourself.

I am a happy guy in this happy land called BOLLYWOOD, I am a fashion designer, and I love my work.

Tell us something about your journey in bollywod.

As a child I was pampered by my dad and mom who wanted to see me achieve something big in life .They supported me throughout and had faith in my creativity and ability. In 2003 I graduated from NIFT New Delhi, and got 'The Best Design Collection' award on the day of our graduation ceremony. Then, in 2003, I shifted to Mumbai. I consider myself lucky to get a job with the king of fashion in Bollywood 'Manish Malhotra', who showed me the world of cinema. After working with him for almost a year I started my own journey, a journey that would transform me from a native boy to a mature man.

I met Anurag Basu, and showed him my work. He found my work perfect for his upcoming movie 'Gangster', which was released in 2006. Soon, I signed a few more movies for Mukesh Bhatt's production. I designed for 'Life in a Metro' for UTV and work followed, I started working for various production houses.

I was lucky to do a biscuit advertisement with Shah Rukh Khan, for red chilies production. Recently I did an advertisement for Nissan Micra where I styled and designed for Ranbeer Kapoor. And now as I have finished working for Mukesh bhatt's 'Murder 2'. I'm working on my body.

What kind of designing you do?

I always design for characters. If you see my work in 'Life in a metro' it's a movie about real characters, and they look convincing and glamorous at the same time. I never go out of way to prove my creativity. My priority is comfort for the character I am designing for, e.g. Kangana Ranaut in 'Woh Lamhe' had to go through a long journey as a character, so the costumes were designed according to different stages of life Kangana's character went through and it was a beautiful experience.

Your struggle.

I don't call it struggle. It always was a journey. I have been blessed by God, who was always there with me in everything , he supported me in every step of my life, I believe in God and pray to him, to give me strength, that prepares me for challenges in life.

I have never been in any uncomfortable situation because I was always clear about what I wanted, and I had faith that whatever we hear about the industry like compromises etc is baseless. I don't think it happens to people who are good at doing their job.

Shows, Serials and Movies done as a Fashion designer

There is a long list. Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Life in a Metro, Awarapan, Showbiz, Maharathi, Murder 2, Tere Mere Phere (under production with Ketan Mehta), Raaz 2, Kites, Janeman, Jashnn, and many more.

I have not done much of serials but yes I designed for the initial few episodes of Bhaskar Bharti for Ragani Khanna and Ejaz Khan. Both of them are my close friends and I did it solely for them. That show is very close to my heart.

Achievements and the prizes won

I won the "Best Designer Award" at NIFT in 2003.

Tips for models regarding dresses they wear.

Wear what looks good on you and not what some magazine claims as new fashion. Shoes are very important part of clothing therefore never ignore your shoes. For both men and women the safest thing to wear is white shirt with blue denims, you can't go wrong with it.

Where do you see yourself in coming future?

As a successful fashion designer what you think is missing in Industry?

Drama, I prefer movies that entertain. I loved Dabangg, and Band Baja Barat, they were complete drama. I don't know why drama is missing in our movies now. Murder 2, is a good movie I'm looking forward to watch it.

Do you think designer's creativity plays an important role in the movie?

A designer plays a very important part in any movie, as they deal with the look of the movie. Every dress and look is designed according to the script.

What would you like to say to those girls and boys who want to be fashion designers but don't know how to start?

To decide what looks good on who is a very responsible job. Talent is one thing, and responsibility is the greater part of being a designer. So all youngsters, who are planning to take fashion designing as a career need to first, discover themselves before presenting their talent in front of others. Find a nice institute in your city, else NIFT, is the best. Always follow your dreams. If you are interested in designing start your preparations from today. Work in a boutique, see how a garment is made, know about fabrics, try and sketch, collect images of all designs you like.

There are youngsters who say that their parents are not in favour of them doing fashion designing. To them I'll suggest not to fight with their parents, do normal graduation, be independent and from there take it further on your own, it's never too late in life to be what you want to be. You just have to keep faith in yourself, have right attitude, and a right mindset.

For students who can't afford to do expensive courses opt for short term courses because at the end of the day it's your talent and experience that counts. Remember in creative fields creativity comes first and degree second.

Advise to all the models for best shooting their Portfolios.

It's always important to have a good portfolio. Find out the best photographer in your budget, try and look for magazine, where you can find interesting images of models, and actors you admire and get nice outfits arranged. Work on your body, face and attitude before your shoot, give time to yourself and believe in yourself, if you won't believe in yourself no one else will believe in you.

Upcoming Shows, Serials and Movies as a Fashion designer.

Murder 2, Tere Mere Phere. Both are movies.
